26 Pebbles was an intimate, small ensemble show revolving around the tragic shootings that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. The abstract set required lots of lighting isolation to distinguish locations on a small intimate stage, with a very restricted color palette of warm to cool light, which I used to enforce the emotions of the characters - citizens of Newton, Connecticut. The fast paced, rhythmic quality of this play required precisely timed cues, which I used to subtly maintain location as well emotional tone. In my design choices, it was very important to me to pull out the moments of beauty of people coming together in tragedy, which I reinforced with the juxtaposition of moments of warm light on a cold background. This was my way of reinforcing the way that the courage and compassion of the human spirit can ripple through from deep within the ground of heartbreak.
